Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC)

What it is: 

The revolutionary practice of Whole Body Cryotherapy and has its origin in Japan, where it was first used as an alternative treatment for rheumatoid arthritis. The process involves using sub-zero temperatures to activate the hypothalamus, immune and central nervous system, which triggers an anti-inflammatory effect throughout the entire body.

How it Works 

A WBC session involves stepping into a so called Cryosauna, where gasiform nitrogen – the same nitrogen as in the air we breathe – is used to achieve freezing temperatures over a period of 2-3 minutes. The cold environment temporarily lowers the temperature of the client’s skin, which then signals the brain to affect a variety of bodily functions. 

How it Feels

The session is brief enough that the sensation typically associated with freezing temperatures is very temporary and usually occurs at the end of the treatment, after which it is quickly replaced by a rush of endorphins and a strong sense of wellbeing. Cryotherapy also releases anti-inflammatory molecules, which will provide relief for sore muscles and other painful physical concerns. These effects can last for several days and often increase as the full range of benefits has had time to develop. 

Treatment Frequency 

Depending on your condition, it is recommended to begin with a series of 5-10 treatments performed within a short timespan. This will allow your body an intense period of optimal healing and processing existing concerns, after which we would choose a maintenance program which would determine frequency of sessions.
